TLDR:
Dex+: Has the same fructose to fiber ratio as blueberries.
Dex++: Is Dex+ and also has a ratio of fiber to calories matching USRDA recommendations.
Dex#: I say "dex sharp"; it is Dex++ and also has the same carbohydrate to fiber ratio as blueberries.
Where I'm coming from
I am no kind of a heath/medical professional; I'm a mother, an engineer, and an observer of what we the "common citizens" have been told for many years about health, and of what the food industry has been doing to our food.
Many medical and nutrition recommendations have been pushed on the public as fact, backed by studies and credible spokesmen. Many (most?) of those recommendations have been proven false by data over time and by new studies.
We get less healthy even as we try to live by professional health and nutrition recommendations. Now I'm trying my own path, and so far it's going pretty well.
Too much fructose is bad, and makes you hungry:We get less healthy even as we try to live by professional health and nutrition recommendations. Now I'm trying my own path, and so far it's going pretty well.
Rules that I've collected
- Eat less. 30 g a day is a safe max to shoot for.
- Where I started: More detail on what fructose does, and how to start cutting it out immediately.
We like what we like: don't deny it, fix it!
- Attempting permanent denial of favorite foods tends to fail.
- My Dex+ idea is to modify those foods by replacing most of the fructose, and adding fiber to make them more filling and satisfying. This eliminates the cravings and lets you eat less.
- Thoughts on fiber
- Some basics on sugar: fructose, glucose, galactose.
- Where fructose hides, so you have a chance to limit it.
Fat is filling, it's not evil:
- Whats bad is, replacing fat with sugar and carbs and telling people that is healthy.
Cold is the best calorie burner:
- Thermogenex: it's bonafide!
Eating less/fasting can be good:
- If you're not hungry, don't eat. Don't let social pressures or nutritional advice push you into eating when you really don't want anything.
- If you're hungry, but want to avoid the snack machine in favor of a good meal at home later, try one of these:
-- Fiber and fat are filling; Try having a glass of water, tea, or coffee with some Benefiber mixed in; add some cream to that hot beverage, and it's even better.
-- Have salty water, per the snake juice guy; yes, he's irritating, but having a glass of water with salts in it does turn off hunger pangs. I just put 1/8 tsp salt (NaCl) and .5 tsp "no salt" (potassium chloride, KCl) into 2 cups of water, stir, and drink. Don't drink this more that twice in a day, to prevent consuming too much potassium.
Do some research, and then consider enjoying some sunshine and salt:
- Studies are coming out that show that getting at least a good 15 min of direct sunshine at high noon, without any sunblocks and such, give your body a much-needed dose of UV light. The UV is used to make vitamin D and nitrous oxide, and helps you loose weight, lowers blood pressure, and makes you happier. Moderation is key, and sunburn is still a bad thing.
- Evidence is beginning to show that salt is not really bad for you, and is very necessary. Go have a look around.
Benefits my family has seen while loosely following these rules:
- Reversal of a trend toward becoming diabetic.
- Reduced gout attacks.
- Weight loss.
- Food seems more naturally sweet and flavorful.
- Less food cravings.
